The winds of change are blowing around the Bloom house! Friday December 20th was my last day working at A Better Way Domestic Violence Shelter for Women. I have been having quite a few problems with my boss recently and finally decided that enough was enough. So on January 7th, I being graduate level classes at Ball State for School Counseling. Working with middle schoolers at my after school program made me realize that I really do not want to teach, but that I really enjoy getting to know students and being someone they feel they can talk to. Which is really hard to do when I am under staffed and in charge of 50 students! I made some really good connections at Northside Middle School. I am good friends with one of the school counselors and I know the principle and all the other administrators which can't hurt. The counselor at NMS actually wrote one of my recommendations for grad school. So I now feel as though I have a pretty good network started in Muncie Community Schools which will help me a lot when I'm applying for jobs in a few years.
The only possible drawback to this set up is that I'm not officially accepted into the graduate program yet. Once you get your application completed you are aloud to take up to 9 credit hours (which is full time) before you are accepted. So I am starting in January and won't know until March whether or not I can actually continue. I'm not too worried about it though, as long as I keep my grades up I can prove to them that I can do it!
I am taking 3 classes this semester, Psychopathology which is all about diagnosing psychological problems this class, from what I've heard will be by far the hardest. I'm also taking, Theories and Techniques of Counseling which is exactly what it sounds like. I am taking Multicultural Counseling Techniques also which I haven't heard anything about so I don't really know what to expect. I'm actually looking forward to getting back into school especially since this will lead me into something that I'm pretty sure I want to do (you can't really beat working 181 days out of the year!)
Currently I don't have a job. Ideally, I would be able to get an Assistantship at BSU which would mean that grad school would be almost free and I would get a monthly stipend. But most of those are hired in the fall so it's pretty slim pickings at this point. I am looking around Muncie for something part time, but I haven't found anything yet. I am personally ok with taking a little transition time and not working right away, but our finances don't agree so that makes it hard to wait.
Matt is also in the midst of a change. He recently decided that teaching is not something that he is passionate enough about to pursue so he finished up the semester and will not be returning to the teaching program at Anderson University. Instead, he will be starting back as a server at the Olive Garden. He's planning on taking some time to seriously focus on his writing because being a published author is what he is really passionate about. Eventually his is going to being looking for full time work, but most likely not until we are really hurting money wise. As long as we can make it as the bohemians that we are becoming that is what we will do! :)
In other news, I was given a digital camera for Christmas this year!! Very exciting (thanks Mandy!!!!). So I will be able to post pictures from now on, but I have to wait until I am home and can put them onto my computer. So expect pictures soon!! Yeah!
We are finishing up our Christmas Extravaganza tomorrow and will be heading home. Thanks to all the quiting that took place we were able to spend December 21st-26th with Matt's family in Grand Rapids and the 26th - the 1st in Goshen with my fam. It's been great to be able to spend so much time on Christmas, but I will be glad to get back home to my very comfortable bed! :) I will be posting pictures of all the Christmas events soon!
Happy New Years Eve everyone!
